Anish Kapoor's latest sculpture "Leviathan"

The 35 meter tall work is made from PVC and is 13,500 square meters when fully inflated, forming a cathedral-like space which viewers can enter into, as though entering a huge whale. Kapoor has decided to dedicate the sculpture to Ai Weiwei in an attempt to raise awareness for the unjust detention of the artist by the Chinese government.

MONUMENTA marks Anish Kapoor's return to Paris, thirty years after his very first exhibition. "His ambition for the Grand Palais is to create an aesthetic and physical shock, a colourful experience that is at once poetic, meditative and stunning, measuring itself against the verticality and light of the Nave, an interior that seems somehow greater than the exterior."
MONUMENTA will be running from 11 May through 23 June, 2011.
