ARTIST DIRECT for CUSSES - Interview

Cusses make the kind of rock 'n' roll the world needs more of.

It's as haunting as it is hypnotic, and it's as dirty as it is daring. The group's self-titled debut remains an inimitable and infectious affair. The record's easily one of the year's most exciting by far, opening the door into Cusses' wild world.

In this exclusive interview with ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino, Angel Bond and Brian Lackey of Cusses talk the record, movies, and so much more.

Did you have one vision or vibe in mind going into the record?

Brian Lackey: We have a library of about two more records actually under our belts. We had our producer help us pick and choose the strongest first record. It goes without saying that Dan Hannon did a great job picking out the songs that would make a solid first record for it.

Angel Bond: He picked a lot of our favorites, of course.

Brian Lackey: He also brought a few out that we had on the backburner and pushed them.

What's the story behind "Blood Everywhere"?

Angel Bond: It's a story about family struggles and working through them and burying the past and moving forward with it. A lot of my lyrics are about having a positive outlook at the very end no matter how difficult times can be.

Brian Lackey: Angel sat down and wrote that together, and it was like a play on words. Even though, there's a lot of death everywhere you're surviving through it like, "I don't care. I'm going to make the best of it anyway".
