Curated by Shea & Ziegler in collaboration with Moniker Projects.
Shea
& Ziegler are proud to announce Herakut’s much anticipated return
to London, the duo’s first since 2008. Alongside an collection of all
new artworks the German pair will be unveiling and signing copies of
their new book ‘After The Laughter’, which offers an intimate insight
into the individuals behind their emotionally-charged artwork and
dynamic partnership. Designed as a revealing scrapbook ‘After The
Laughter’ is hand-crafted by both Hera and Akut, and features all new
murals, works on canvas, and sketches. The book is collaged with images
in different mediums and includes revealing photographs of the duo, both
at work and at play. All elements are woven into a multilayered, poetic
reflection on art and its role in the world, with a range of freeform
ideas penned artfully on the book pages in Herakut’s signature
lettering. Masking-tape edges and crossed out pencil confessions
complete the personal, forthright style — an open invitation into the
frenzied minds and rapid-fire hands of a unique artistic team.

About Herakut:
Herakut
is an artist duo consisting of Jasmin Siddiqui, born 1981 in Frankfurt,
West Germany, and Falk Lehmann, born 1977 in Schmalkalden,
East Germany. Their artistic style is as symbiotic as their name, which
is itself a combination of the two individual graffiti pseudonyms Hera
and Akut. A love for traveling and painting for the public eye are just a
few of the things Akut and Hera have in common. Their work is based on
bringing together contrasting elements: masculine vs. feminine, Eastern
vs. Western, the ruggedness of Street Arts vs. the detail of Fine Arts.
Since 2004, Herakut have painted and exhibited in prestigious cities
including London, Berlin, New York and Paris, as well as spending
valuable time painting unorthodox sites in less glamorous cities such as
Ekaterinburg in Russia and Campeche, Mexico. Both of Herakut’s
publications, ‘The Perfect Merge’ published in 2009 and 2011’s ‘After
the Laughter’ have received great acclaim, with the two books selling
over 10,000 copies worldwide.
Urban Fine Art at The Gallery, 99 Mount Street
Shea
& Ziegler and Moniker Projects are pleased to announce a series of
Fine Art events with their roots firmly embeded in urban culture. Taking
place in the heart of London’s Contemporary Art district, the programme
will culminate in a live-painting installation at this year’s edition
of the exclusive Mayfair Garden Party. Affirming the prominence of Urban
Fine Art on today’s contemporary art agenda, this month-long showcase
will bring some of the movement’s most pivotal progenitors and
practitioners to an ever-widening audience of astute art collectors,
dealers, and investors. Evidence for the convergence of this burgeoning
movement with the Contemporary Art market has already been witnessed
worldwide and we look forward to strengthening its reputation within
(this enclave of) London’s Fine Art community.
