Lovefest: Heart to Mouth Sheath your arrows: the voluptuous red heart, international symbol of love, is reimagined in this a visceral new short by genre-defying Dutch artist Bart Hess. With echoes of high-tech fetish fashion and Jeff Koons’ contemporary pop art classic “Hanging Heart,” Hess’ latest video stages a Sapphic encounter from within crimson latex balloons. “I want to create a tension between the body and material—almost as though they become one,” says the multidisciplinary creative NOWNESS - READ MORE

Video: Spike Jonze - Mourir Aupres de Toi

NOWNESS.com premiered a new short film from the celebrated filmmaker Spike Jonze. Made in collaboration with Olympia Le-Tan, the short sees her embroidered clutch bags (made in the design of famous books) spring to life during the after hours of a parisian bookstore. "It's such a beautiful and romantic place," said Le-Tan. "The perfect setting for our story!"
The project apparently began when Jonze asked Le-Tan for a Catcher in the Rye embroidery to put on his wall. Le-Tan replied saying that she would make it, but only in return for a film. The result took over six months and 3,000 pieces of hand-cut felt to create.

Rainbow Warrior: Delfine Bafort

The Belgian Model Turns Chameleon Under the Tropical Palette of Francelle Daly

KT Auleta conjures equatorial extremes in her latest beauty film for NOWNESS, transforming model Delfine Bafort from dewy jungle innocent to fierce tribal warrior with the aid of celebrated NARS makeup artist Francelle Daly. Auleta’s vision was for the cosmetics to mimic the differing qualities of light in a day: soft and misty morning sunshine turning to hyper-real bright colors at noon, and a fade out to black when night falls. “I wanted it to feel organic, but with a fantastical edge,” explains the photographer and filmmaker, whose work has appeared in Vogue, Elle and The New York Times’ T Magazine. Referencing real-life body-painting traditions, Daly turned to Phyllis Galembo's Maske, a book on African and Caribbean carnival costumes, as well as to the work of Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock for their color blocking and brush strokes.
